School Resource Officer Rory Micou passed away on February 15, 2023 from a battle with cancer. During his years of service, Officer Micou served as one the Cleveland Police Department’s School Resource Officers. He was dedicated to serving his community and mentoring the youth. Officer Micou entered the department doors every day with a smile on his face.

He fought an excruciating yet courageous battle with cancer and stayed strong. He will truly be missed by every life he had the opportunity to touch. He is survived by his wife, and his daughter.


School Resource Officer Johnny Patterson

School Resource Officer Johnny Patterson succumbed to injuries sustained on January 13th, 2022, when he was struck by a car while directing traffic on Noah Curtis Street in front of Shannon Primary School.

He was directing traffic at the end of the school day when a vehicle struck the back of his patrol car, which was then pushed into him. He was transported to North Mississippi Medical Center where he remained on life support until his organs were donated on January 21st, 2022.

Officer Patterson also served as the assistant chief of the Verona Police Department and had served in law enforcement for 28 years. He is survived by his wife, two sons, and several grandchildren.


School Resource Officer Corey Ray

Madison Central School Resource Officer Corey Ray was released from the hospital on Tuesday, July 13, 2021 after an extended digestive illness. Officer Ray, who had been hospitalized for about eight months, when released, got a police escort home. He passed away a day later at home surrounded by his family and friends.

In 2018, Corey Ray was assigned as a full-time police officer with the Madison Police Department with his primary duties continuing to be providing for the safety, security and well-being of the Madison schools’ students, faculty, and staff. Corey was dedicated to helping students and Madison’s youth. He realized how challenging growing up could be and provided guidance to Madison’s young citizens on many occasions. He helped many students facilitate the right choices in their lives.


Lieutenant Marzell Jerome Brooks

Lieutenant Marzell Brooks died as the result of complications after contracting COVID-19 while on duty.

Lieutenant Brooks had served with the Brookhaven Police Department for 28 years and was assigned to Brookhaven High School.

Lt. Brooks leaves behind a wonderful family and a community filled with children who loved and adored him. After being the high school resource officer for more than 20 years, he had helped many residents come of age. Lt. Brooks loved his job and took pride in being the best role model for the students. The community he served, neighbors, friends, and many young people will continue to remember him and celebrate the life he lived.
